Skala Sotiros is situated in the north-west of Thassos island, 3 kms. away from Skala Prinos and 20 kms. away from Limenas, the island’s capital. Skala is Sotiros small port and is located along a beautiful and lively beach. Thermal baths of the later Roman Era were to be found here. Ruins of a pre-historical settlement were also discovered under the church yard, dated to the first period of the copper Era .
The population of the village is estimated to be about 700. Their main occupation is olive and olive oil production, sheep raising and fishing .
Visitors can have easy access to the biggest villages of the island, Limenaria and Limenas, due to the favourable location of Sotiros at the halfway of the island .
A road 3 kms. long leads visitors to the mountainous part of Sotiros, 380m. high. The village is famous for its wonderful, mild and dry climate. The traditional houses, the old village church and the tap of 1888 in the central square are still to be admired. The mountainous part of Sotiros is indeed the place with the fewest changes, which makes it one of the most traditional and most attractive villages of the island .
There are regular scheduled routes from Kavala to Nea Peramos. Visitors can also have access to Keramoti (Kavala) through Limenas port .
